The canvas

The canvas is the whole instrument. There are no hidden pages: every node you add sits on it, and every cable you draw is the sound’s real path.

Moving around

  • Drag one finger on empty canvas to pan, and pinch to zoom, up to three times the normal size.
  • Zoomed far out, the dots stop starting cables, so a drag anywhere moves a node. Zoom in to draw cables.
  • A tap on empty canvas clears the selection.

Nodes

Filterin: sound or notesout: drag a cable from heremodulation comes in at the topits main knob, moving with modulationicon in its kind’s colour
Sound and notes go in on the left and out on the right. Modulators send from a dot on their bottom edge, and modulation comes in at the top.
  • Add a node with the + button beside the patch name. Every node is shown at once, in four columns: Sources, Modulation, Shape and Effects. A tap adds it in a free spot in view.
  • Move a node by dragging its body. It lands on the nearest free spot of a grid, so nodes never sit on top of each other.
  • Select a node with a tap. Its border turns orange, its cables come forward and the other nodes fade back.
  • Open its popup by tapping it again. Several popups can be open at once; drag one by its header to put it anywhere.
  • Insert a node that has no cables yet by dragging it onto a cable and holding it there. When the cable lights up, let go.
  • Remove a node with the bin button in its popup. If it sat in the middle of a chain, the cables on either side are joined, so the sound keeps playing.
  • Rename a node by tapping the title in its popup.

Popups

A node’s popup holds all of its controls. Along the header are the mute button, the ? help page, the four quick slots and the title.

  • Double-tap any knob, fader or bar to put it back to its default.
  • Double-tap and hold a control to show it on the node on the canvas, or to take it off again. Each node shows one small knob, which moves when something modulates it.
  • Muting an effect, a Filter or a Pan bypasses it, so the sound passes through unchanged. Muting a source or an Amp silences it.

Pictures you can play

Every source and most effects draw a moving picture of the sound: an oscilloscope, a chord wheel, a wind chime, smoke, sand on a vibrating plate. The picture is a control too. Drag it sideways and up and down to move two settings at once, and double-tap it to reset them. The bars on its right and bottom edges are two more.

Undo, solo and the Macros bar

  • Undo and redo cover every change: knobs, cables, nodes and loading a patch.
  • Every Amp has a Solo button (S). Solo one and only its chain plays, through its effects; the rest of the canvas fades back. Solo is a listening aid and is never saved with a patch.
  • The Macros bar along the bottom holds the eight macros. Select it to light up every macro cable with its amount.
