Helin is also an AUv3 instrument. Load it in AUM or another host on iPad and iPhone, or in Logic, GarageBand, MainStage and other hosts on a Mac with Apple silicon.
Setting up
- Add Helin as an instrument and route your MIDI keyboard or a MIDI track to it.
- Open its window to build and edit as in the app. A small window shows just the eight macros.
- Your sounds are the same as in the app: both read the same Patches library.
Sessions and automation
- Everything you change is saved with the host’s session, along with the sound’s name.
- The eight macros and the output level can be automated by the host, and the knobs move with the automation. Name your macros so they read well in the host.
- Helin tells the host its 1.5 ms output delay, so it lines up with the other tracks, and a bounce renders the whole tail of releases, echoes and reverb.
Tempo and transport
Synced Oscillators, the Delay and the Arp follow the host’s tempo. The Arp follows the beat while the transport plays and keeps time at the host’s tempo when it stops; stopping the transport ends its notes.
Good to know
- A MIDI Reset All Controllers message brings pitch bend, the mod wheel, aftertouch and the pedal back to rest.
- Panic and a host’s reset also clear delay and reverb tails.
- Notes In sets the MIDI channel Helin listens on and the pitch bend range.
