The Arp is a full step arpeggiator, the same one as in the ArpBridge plugin. It plays the notes you hold as patterns, in time with the host or Helin’s own tempo.
Add it
Tap + and pick Arp from the Modulation column. It goes between Notes In and the sources and turns on. Hold a chord and it plays. Delete it and the keys go straight to the sources again.
Shape the steps
- Tap the Arp to open its designer. Each step has its velocity, length, rests, ties and chords; a tied note is one bar across its steps.
- Live mode plays from what you hold; Grid mode is a step sequencer of notes. Switch between them under Mode in the ⋯ options.
- Six note orders with variations, an octave or inversion range, rates from 1/1 to 1/32 with dotted and triplet, swing and latch modes.
- The dice rolls a random pattern, note order and variation.
- Key velocity, the tapping hand, makes notes follow how hard you play each key. Switched off, every note plays its bar at full strength.
Patterns
Tap the pattern name for the list of every pattern, or step through them with the arrows. Save this pattern keeps your steps and rate under a name. Patterns are .arp files, so a pattern made in ArpBridge opens in Helin and back.
Several Arps and modulation
- Add up to four Arps. Each has its own pattern and plays only the sources its cables reach, so two sounds can arpeggiate at different rates side by side.
- The Arp’s step trigger, velocity and position come out of dots on the node. Cable them to any knob to move a filter or a mix in step with the pattern.
Timing
In a host, the Arp follows the beat while the transport plays and keeps time at the host’s tempo when it stops. In the app, it follows the tempo pill, or an external MIDI clock when one comes in. With Hold on, tapping a held key again takes its note out of the pattern.
