Helin Guide

Patches

A patch is a whole sound: its nodes, cables and settings. Helin saves your work by itself a second after every change, and opens on the sound you were playing last time.

The Patches panel

Tap the patch name at the top left. On the left are the sound you are on (marked Edited once you change it), Save, Save as New, New, Duplicate and Delete. Then the folders:

  • Factory: fifty sounds in Keys, Pads, Atmospheres, Bass, Leads and Plucks.
  • Guest artists: folders of sounds made by other musicians, each with their photo, a short bio and a link to their website.
  • User: your own sounds, in folders you make, rename and move sounds between.
  • Stars: star any sound and it is listed at the top, one tap away.

Search finds a sound by name. A new sound gets a playful random name; tap the name to change it.

iCloud Drive

One library on every device, shared by the app and the plugin.

Your sounds live in a Helin folder in iCloud Drive. Your folders are real folders there and each sound is a file named after it, so you can arrange, copy and back them up in the Files app. Every iPad, iPhone and Mac on your account gets the same sounds and stars, and the app and the plugin in your host share them. Without iCloud everything stays on the device. If a sound was changed on two devices at once, the newer keeps its name and the other is kept beside it as a conflict copy.

Sharing

  • The share button at the top of the panel sends the current sound to AirDrop, Messages, Mail or Files.
  • Long-press or swipe a User folder for Export as Pack: the folder and its subfolders as one .zip.
  • Import takes a single sound or a .zip pack. A pack lands in a new User folder named after the file.
  • A sound made by someone else keeps their name, shown under the patch name.
