What it does

A drive that moves with your playing

DriveBridge is an audio effect: put it after a synth or on any track. Its clipping moves with how you play, the output stays as loud as the input, and you judge it by its tone, not by more volume.

It is the Drive from the Helin synthesizer, on its own, with an oscillator added to move it.

Set it up in AUM

Four steps to a driven sound

1

Add DriveBridge

In AUM, add DriveBridge as an effect after a synth or on any audio channel.

2

Pick a mode

Step through Valve, Tape, Pedal, Fuzz and Fold with the arrows.

3

Set the drive

Raise Drive, then drag on the picture: up and down for Tone, sideways for Character.

4

Make it move

Give the oscillator a depth on any control, free or in time with the host.

Opening the DriveBridge app itself shows the same steps.

Features

Five drives, one oscillator

Valve

A two-stage preamp whose clipping moves with your playing and sags on hard hits.

Tape

Saturates, rounds and wobbles.

Pedal

An overdrive that leaves the low end clean.

Fuzz

Starves and sputters, and its last quarter wrecks the sound.

Fold

A wavefolder for hollow, vocal and metallic tones.

Level matched

As loud as the input up to 70 % Drive; past it the top opens up by up to 6 dB.

Oscillator

Moves Drive, Character, Tone, Body, Dynamics and Mix, each by its own depth. Six shapes, free or synced.

Cab

Puts a speaker cabinet’s band after the drive.

A picture per mode

Glowing valves, a stompbox, a fuzz box and its battery, a tape machine, a knot of light.

Automation and presets

Every control is an Audio Unit parameter. 14 built-in presets in the host’s preset menu.

Common questions

Why doesn’t it get louder when I raise Drive?

On purpose: the output stays as loud as the input up to 70 % Drive, so you hear the tone change and not the volume. Past 70 % the top opens up by up to 6 dB.

Is it the same drive as in Helin?

Yes, the same engine. DriveBridge adds the oscillator and a picture for each mode.

Can AUM automate it?

Yes. Every control, the oscillator depths too, is an Audio Unit parameter, saved with the project and in the host’s presets.
